We have an opening for a Nuclear Material Surveillance, Fabrication, and Off-site Operations Group Leader (SFOGL) / Associate Program Leader (APL). You will be responsible to ensure the SFO team meets programmatic objectives while maintaining a safe and compliant operations at LLNL, NNSS, and LANL. You will interact with program engineers and scientists, DOE staff, operations personnel, and with all levels of management both internal and external to the Laboratory. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the Engineering Directorate. DTED provides support to the Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) Program.

This position will be filled at either the SEL.4 or SEL.5 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Provide overall technical, safety, and security leadership for nuclear material fabrication and assembly technologies to ensure that programmatic milestones are safely met on schedule and within budget.
- Collaborate with project principals and customers to market group capabilities and to define programmatic objectives, budgets, and schedules.
- Review and approve required work control document and project plans.
- Ensure programmatic objectives are achieved in assigned laboratories or buildings in full compliance with the ES&H Manual, the facility Design Safety Analysis (DSA) and Facility Safety Plan (FSP), and applicable Operational Safety Plans (OSPs).
- Mentor project engineers and technicians.
- Serve on internal and external technical committees representing the Laboratory in the area of nuclear material fabrication and assembly.
- Responsible for the general oversight and personal commitment to the goals of Integrated Safety management, Integrated Safeguards and Security Management, and compliance with all ES&H requirements.
- Travel up to 50% time to LANL and NNSS to oversee and coordinate LLNL activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition at the SEL.5 Level
- Influence strategic technical decisions made by senior management and external customers.
- Serve as organization spokesperson by Laboratory management and/or external advisor by sponsors.
- Serve on external scientific or technical committees, representing the Laboratory.

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Highly effective leadership, interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to effectively present, explain, and advise senior management and external sponsors and regulators, including preparing and presenting proposals, technical briefings, and reporting results.
- Significant experience as a leader in the process of managing, organizing, planning, and coordinating projects with multi-disciplinary teams of experts.
- Significant experience in nuclear material fabrication equipment design and testing to effectively lead a team that will advance current equipment. Significant experience with data gathering and reporting.
- Ability to independently advise, recommend, and approve appropriate actions and implement solutions using a high degree of independent judgment. Ability to apply creative and innovative solutions for broadly defined issues.
- Ability to secure and maintain certification in the Human Reliability Program (HRP), which includes polygraph examination, physical and psychological assessment, and random drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to work in a project team environment.
- Ability to travel.

In Addition at the SEL.5 Level
- Extensive experience and ability with engineering analysis, hardware design, fabrication, leading development of cutting-edge technologies, and testing processes.
- Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to effectively present, explain, influence, and advise senior management and external sponsors.
- Extensive experience and expert technical knowledge to address advancements that may have impact beyond the Laboratory.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
